In the summer of 1896, film, arrived in Shanghai across the ocean, marking the first encounter between China and Cinema. Since then, this new invention has survived and thrived in China.

Shanghai has become a place where filmmakers from home and abroad concentrate. Thanks to the appeal of the older generation of filmmakers, the Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) was officially founded in 1993.

SIFF devotes itself to building up an international platform, in an effort to promote the industry development and enhance cooperation with the rest of the world.

The competition sections of the Festival include awards as the Golden Goblet Award and the Asian New Talent Award. The most prestigious Award given out is the Golden Goblet for Best Feature Film.

Jaeger-LeCoultre is the Official Partner of the Festival since 2011 and hosts an annual charity auction Gala to support film restoration in China.
